5 Places to Enjoy a Sunset on Phillip Island this Summer

Admiring the sky ablaze with hues of gold and orange as the sun dips below the horizon makes the perfect end to a long summer day. The uninterrupted views across Phillip Island’s coastlines make for awe-inspiring viewing. Here are our suggestions on where to see stunning sunsets at Phillip Island and San Remo this summer.

Smiths Beach

You can’t go wrong with sunset at any of the lookouts along the south coast of Phillip Island, but the vista from Smiths Beach is something special. Watch the sun lower over gentle waves hitting the sandy beach. This is also a great vantage point to experience the return of the Short-Tailed Shearwaters on a summer evening.

Red Rocks Beach

For a beautiful calm sunset shielded from the southerly winds head to Red Rocks Beach in Cowes. The red rocks made from ancient volcanic ash create a stunning contrast to the beach and blue water as the sun sets.

Cowes

Cowes Main Beach is the ideal location to soak up Phillip Island's seaside holiday vibe and be met with stunning sunset vistas. At sunset, wander to the end of the jetty for an even more spectacular view! The many eateries with ocean views along the foreshore fill up fast on a summers evening with diners eager to watch the sky change hues as they dine.

San Remo Pier

Dine in one of San Remo’s many eateries or grab fish and chips from the San Remo Fisherman’s Co-Op and await the sunset. When your belly is full, wander down to the San Remo Pier and catch the last glimpses of the sun as it lowers behind the impressive silhouette of Cape Woolamai.

Grossard Point Lookout

Follow the short trail from the gravel carpark at the end of Grossard Point Road in Ventnor to reach a small viewing platform. Be greeted with panoramic views along the western side of Phillip Island and gaze on as the sun sets over The Nobbies.
