Bass Coast Rail Trail

Enjoy panoramic views of Bass Strait as you meander through farmland, coastal bushland, historic coal mining reserves and rugged coastline. The Bass Coast Rail Trail is the only coastal rail trail in Victoria travels through a magnificent range of scenery. Starting at Anderson, a gradual descent through farmland leads to the coast with its roaring surf, sandy beaches and views of Bass Strait. Cross the iconic trestle bridge at Kilcunda and continue over the Powlett River through open farmland and soak up the spectacular views. Pass by remnants of the coal mining days and wetlands, before finishing at Wonthaggi.

If you are looking for a challenge, extend the distance and start the trail at San Remo as you travel along the San Remo to Anderson shared pathway. Alternatively, hikers can link to the George Bass Coastal Walk at Kilcunda, making it possible to walk from the Punch Bowl in San Remo, all the way to the centre of Wonthaggi.
