Industry Update 5 May 2021

Welcome

Last week we attended one of the largest Australian Business Events to be held since the start of COVID. Over 900 tourism delegates including many from Phillip Island and Gippsland gathered at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for a 2 day conference.

Of course with all tourism industry gatherings the chatter was loud and the excitement of in person catch up was heartening.
We took away a number of learnings which will support our plans for the coming financial year.

Save the afternoon of Thursday 3rd June for our next Industry Event, a 1/2 day lunch and seminar to share with you inspiring presentations and industry updates. We look forward to catching up with our partners on this day.

We have included various updates in this weeks edition, especially around Island Whale month, please reach out asap as we are finalising the program for this event.

Can you create an event for Island Whale Month?

Island Whale Month is creating a month long program of events and promotion of the region for whale watching, and enjoying all our special experiences.
We will promote events from 11 June to 11 July, and the traditional 3 day Island Whale Festival will be held from 2-4 July during the school holidays.
Of course things are a little differant this year, with the festival hub being at the Penguin Parade, with satellite events at various locations including The Nobbies Centre and St Philips Anglican Church and others. Talks and events will be bookable to support a covid safe approach.

We would like more businesses involved, so give us a call to discuss your ideas or to seek some inspiration!

1. your involvement in creating supporting events, displays or other ideas in theming and supporting this whale month - please contact asap if you have some thoughts or would like to discuss your involvement
eg whale themed cocktails, desserts, cakes, chocolates, homewares, images, craft workshops etc

2. special dinner/music events for visitors to the region
between 11 June to 11 July which we can include in the program

3. accommodation and experience packages

4. you sharing all the information on the festival on your socials, newsletters etc (we will be sharing a media kit with you in the coming weeks)

Other fun ideas and your enthusiasm!
We are ready to chat and help develop your involvement,
please give our office a call 0466 620 856

Business Support Fund reassessments

Business Victoria will invite a number of businesses to be reassessed for the first round of the Business Support Fund, launched in March 2020.

About Business Support Fund reassessments

The first round of the Business Support Fund was launched in March 2020, supporting nearly 80,000 businesses with $10,000 grants each.

A number of businesses, however, were found not to be eligible.

In line with recommendations made by the Victorian Ombudsman, the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions is reassessing relevant cases to ensure fairness for all applicants.

Business Victoria will invite first-round Business Support Fund applicants to be reassessed if:

  • your application for the first round of the Business Support Fund was returned for revision, placed back into ‘draft’, and was not completed before the deadline
  • you applied for the first stream of the Business Support Fund and were ineligible because of your ANZSIC industry code, and did not apply for Stream Two and were enrolled in JobKeeper
  • your application was assessed as ineligible because we could not verify your ASIC registration. In this case, you will be invited to be reassessed if you:
    • subsequently had the ASIC registration backdated (for example, when a previous registration had lapsed and not been renewed); or
    • applied with details that could not be verified on the ASIC register at the time, but you can now provide evidence of registration, or show your business is exempt from registration requirements.

QR Code Reminder

Friday, 30 April 2021, was the deadline for businesses in selected industries to sign up to either the free Victorian Government QR Code Service or another API compatible digital record keeping service.

The Victorian Government QR Code Service or an API compatible digital record keeping service is mandatory in most customer facing industries, to help with COVID-19 contact tracing. The list of the sectors can be found at coronavirus.vic.gov.au. The list of API compatible services can be found at www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/visitation-api-connected-third-parties.
If you already use the free Victorian Government QR Code Service for your record-keeping, you don't need to do anything. This QR code system already integrates with the Department of Health's contact tracing system.
If you need to change providers because your current provider is not connected to the Victorian Government Visitation API, the Victorian Government QR Code Service is easy to use and is free for all Victorian businesses and organisations.
By using the Victorian Government QR Code Service, both you and your customers can be sure your data is secure. Data is deleted after 28 days.
Please make sure that visitors check-in with a QR Code. Checking-in allows contact tracers to quickly get the information they need to contain a COVID-19 outbreak.
Calls will continue to be made to remind businesses to use a QR code service that is connected to the Department of Health’s contact tracing system, by Friday, 30 April.
All businesses must have an active, up to date COVIDSafe Plan. Download and display the signage available to remind people of the need to check in and other safety measures.
